Major Improvements Slash MOT (ITV) Waiting Times Across Mallorca
Mallorca drivers have experienced a dramatic shift in MOT (ITV) appointment availability over the past year, with waiting times plummeting from three-month delays to just three days across most inspection stations. The Council of Mallorca confirms this unprecedented improvement through targeted infrastructure upgrades and operational changes.
Station-by-Station Availability Breakdown
Calvia ITV Station now leads in accessibility with four operational inspection lanes handling approximately 9,000 monthly inspections since its 2025 inauguration. Its strategic capacity and lower demand frequently enable next-day appointments – a stark contrast to previous years.
Inca and Manacor Stations have similarly reduced queues to 24-48 hours. Mechanics like Antonio Serra (Manacor AutoCare) confirm: “Last winter, clients waited 90 days for slots at Inca. Now they drive in with same-week bookings.”
Palma II Station currently maintains the island’s longest wait at three days, partly due to the temporary closure of Palma I (Son Castelló) for essential roof repairs. The Council confirms this hasn’t significantly impacted overall service levels.
How Mallorca Achieved the Turnaround
Mobility Councillor Fernando Rubio detailed the transformation strategy implemented since July 2023:
- Extended Saturday operations during peak tourist seasons (June/September)
- Awarding a new concession contract boosting annual inspection capacity by 25% (402,000 to 502,000 vehicles)
- Strategic station upgrades including Calvia’s €4.2M facility
Why Efficient MOTs Matter
Timely vehicle inspections prevent accidents caused by faulty brakes or lighting (responsible for 6% of EU road deaths according to ETSC). Mallorca’s improved system now better accommodates the island’s 600,000 registered vehicles and seasonal rental fleets.
The Council maintains real-time appointment tracking through its official portal, with technicians recertified quarterly to uphold EU inspection standards.
