Mallorca Weather Forecast: A Challenging Winter Ahead

Mallorca is experiencing a particularly tough winter, characterized by wet, cold, and windy conditions. The arrival of another storm, Joseph, is expected to bring further rain and strong winds to the Balearics. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), new fronts and humid winds will result in another rainy day on Tuesday, with limited frosts in the mountains and temperatures around 20ºC in parts of the Balearics.

Weather Warnings and Precautions

An AEMET met office spokesperson has warned of strong gusts of wind across the mainland and the Balearics, which could cause branches and trees to fall, as well as objects located in elevated areas. The forecast for Wednesday is similar, with more rain, although it is expected to be less abundant in the Mediterranean area and the Balearics. However, it is essential to keep a close eye on the weather forecasts, as the storms and fronts are moving and changing rapidly.

The Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Emergencies has called for extreme caution in the face of the rain, wind, and snow storm caused by the high-impact storm Joseph, with particular attention to Wednesday. The most significant episode is expected to occur on that day, with a sharp drop in temperature, significant rainfall, a sudden drop in the snow level, and very strong gusts of wind, which may also affect the Balearics.

Impact of the Storms on Mallorca

The passage of previous storms, such as Ingrid, has left remarkable data, including the fact that while the average rainfall in January in the Balearic Islands is 57 l/m2, in the last seven days, 70 l/m2 have been recorded in Mallorca, 52 l/m2 in Menorca, and 67 l/m2 in Ibiza, according to the AEMet spokesperson. The forecast for the weekend is cautiously optimistic, with Saturday expected to be another day marked by wind and rain in the Balearic Islands, while Sunday is expected to be less adverse, with less wind, rising temperatures, and no rain.
