Mallorca Weather Forecast: Amber Alerts Issued for High Winds on Wednesday
Another windy day is expected in Mallorca, with the met agency issuing amber alerts for high winds in the south and Tramuntana regions. These warnings will remain in place until 6am on Wednesday and will be upgraded to amber until midnight, with gusts reaching up to 90 km/h. Yellow warnings have also been issued for the east and interior regions, with Aemet suggesting gusts could reach up to 85 km/h.
The wind alerts are expected to continue until the weekend, with yellow warnings issued for the coasts on Thursday. On Wednesday, the amber alerts will be in place from midnight to 6am, with yellow warnings until noon and amber again until midnight. Waves in the amber zones could reach up to six meters. In addition to the wind, there is a high risk of rain and thunderstorms, with sunny spells also expected.
Wind Speeds and Gusts: What to Expect
A note on wind speeds and gusts: the strongest gust on Tuesday was recorded in Cabrera, reaching 87 km/h. While this may seem high, it’s not out of the ordinary for the region. Gusts have generally been in the 50-60 range, with the maximum wind speed reaching 67 km/h, which is considered gale force. Maximum wind speeds in other areas were in the 40s.
The forecast for Wednesday is looking windy, with a fresh southwest breeze easing to moderate northwest in Alcudia, and a gentle southwest breeze increasing to fresh northwest in Andratx. Binissalem can expect a moderate southwest breeze increasing to fresh west, while Palma will see a moderate southwest breeze increasing to fresh west. Pollensa will experience a gentle southwest breeze increasing to fresh northwest, with humidity levels ranging from 55-65% across the region.
