Emerging Talent in the Spotlight: Esadib’s Fourth Year Workshops Premiere
The fourth year workshops of the Degree in Interpretation of the High School of Dramatic Art of the Balearic Islands (Esadib) are set to premiere this weekend in the Petita room of the Palma Principal Theatre. This year’s edition brings an exciting novelty: the mounts will embark on a tour that will take them outside of Palma and, for the first time, also outside of Mallorca. This development reinforces the pedagogical and artistic projection of the work carried out at the school, as reported by the Department of Education, on which this center depends.
The first production, Damnatio, a loose version of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, will be presented on January 30 and 31 and February 1. Directed by Professor Biel Jordà, the proposal focuses on Lídia, a protagonist marked by a difficult childhood and by voices that blur the limits between reality and fiction. The following week, on February 6, 7, and 8, the Petita del Principal room will host Aaaah, from the homonymous tragedy by Sophocles, under the direction of Professor Joan M. Albinyana.
A Touring Project and Collaborations
As part of the new touring project, both workshops will also be presented at the Teatre de Manacor thanks to a collaboration agreement. Damnatio will be performed on February 5 at 7 p.m. in the Sala de Dalt, while Àiax can be seen on February 11, also at 7 p.m. That same day, Damnatio will travel to Menorca to perform at the Teatre des Born in Ciutadella, at 8:30 p.m. Furthermore, Àiax will be part of the Esadfest programming, the state festival of higher drama schools, which will celebrate its third edition in Bilbao from May 4 to 8.
Esadib’s Participation in Esadfest
Esadib has previously participated in this meeting with productions such as Hamlet, El tros que en que, and Macbeth, res no és seguirat del que noés. The school’s involvement in Esadfest demonstrates its commitment to showcasing the talents of its students and faculty on a national stage. With its touring project and participation in prestigious festivals, Esadib continues to reinforce its reputation as a leading institution for dramatic arts education.
