Club Esportiu Básquet Sa Real has announced that its first team will not play in Tercera FEB next season. After an urgent board meeting, the directors chose to give up their spot because they could not find a main sponsor able to cover the costs of competing at the national level.
Why the Club Pulled Out
- Financial shortfall: The club tried every possible avenue for sponsorship, but none offered enough money to meet the budget required for Tercera FEB.
- Risk to the institution: President José Bueno warned that entering the league without solid backing would jeopardize the future of the whole organization.

Bueno described the move as “one of the most difficult and painful decisions in our history.” He stressed that institutional responsibility had to come first, even though it hurts to leave a national competition.

Sa Real’s withdrawal leaves a gap in Ibiza’s basketball scene. The club was one of the island’s two representatives in higher‑level leagues (the other being Class Sant Antoni in Second FEB). Fans will miss watching the first team face off against top Spanish sides.

Despite the setback, the club promises to protect its academy. Leaders say they will redirect all resources toward nurturing young players, calling the quarry the “true driving force” of Sa Real. This focus aims to keep basketball thriving on the island even without a senior national team.

They remain open to a last‑minute sponsor or investor who could step forward before the registration deadline with the Spanish Basketball Federation passes. If such support appears, Sa Real would be ready to reverse its decision and try to save the senior team’s place in Tercera FEB.
