Carol Kirkwood’s Post-BBC Plans: A New Chapter in Mallorca

Renowned BBC weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, who recently announced her departure from the BBC after 27 years, is looking forward to a new chapter in her life. With her husband Steve Randall by her side, Kirkwood has set her sights on Mallorca, an island she fell deeply in love with during a research trip for her novel, Meet Me at Sunset.

A Career Spanning Nearly Three Decades

Kirkwood’s decision to leave the BBC, scheduled for April 2026, has sparked an outpouring of gratitude and nostalgia from colleagues, viewers, and industry leaders alike. Reflecting on her decision, Kirkwood admitted that it wasn’t made lightly, stating, “This hasn’t been an easy decision to make, but it feels like the right moment to step away.” With a career spanning nearly three decades, Kirkwood has had the privilege of bringing the weather to audiences every day, a job she has never taken for granted and has “loved every minute” of.

Award-Winning Career and Future Plans

Kirkwood’s illustrious career has been decorated with numerous accolades, including being named Best TV Weather Presenter by the Television and Radio Industries Club an impressive nine times. In 2015, she was awarded an Honorary Fellowship from Princess Anne for “contributions to broadcasting” at Inverness College, part of the University of the Highlands and Islands. As she looks to the future, Kirkwood and her husband plan to travel, either in a camper van or by car, exploring new destinations, with Mallorca being at the top of their list.
