Menorca Doc Fest Launches Sixth Edition of Biosphere Documentary Award
The Menorca Doc Fest has opened submissions for its sixth Biosphere Award for Documentary Film Creation, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability-focused storytelling. This internationally recognized initiative supports filmmakers who explore the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within Menorca’s unique Biosphere Reserve context – a UNESCO-designated ecosystem since 1993.
Substantial Support for Emerging Filmmakers
Three selected projects will receive comprehensive support including:
- €3,500 production grant per project
- Specialized script development mentorship
- Creative residency at Casa d’Artistes
- Professional guidance through all production phases
Global Exposure Opportunities
Beyond the Menorca Doc Fest 2026 premiere, award-winning films gain access to an international festival circuit through established partnerships. Recent screenings have included:
- Evolution Film Fest (Mallorca)
- Insularia Festival (El Hierro)
- Asincronie Festival (Sardinia)
“This network substantially increases visibility for both filmmakers and Menorca’s sustainability initiatives,” confirms festival director Catalina Florit.
A Growing Legacy
Since its inception, the Biosphere Award has supported 15 documentary projects that have collectively reached audiences in 14 countries. The program aligns with Menorca’s Biosphere Reserve Action Plan, which prioritizes environmental education through cultural initiatives.
Documentary professionals interested in applying can submit proposals until October 15, 2024. The selection committee comprises sustainability experts from the Balearic Islands Environmental Observatory and award-winning documentary filmmakers.
