UNITED STATES | Nicki Minaj declares herself Trump’s “number 1 fan” and unleashes criticism in her community

Nicki Minaj’s Surprising Alignment with Donald Trump

Rapper Nicki Minaj has been making headlines recently for her unexpected support of Donald Trump, a stance that has surprised many in the music industry and beyond. In a conference a few weeks ago, Minaj revealed her alignment with the president’s speech, breaking away from her previously held progressive views. This shift in opinion has led to a backlash from her fans and the progressive community, who had previously seen her as a champion of collective and progressive values.

Minaj’s latest statement on the matter came on Wednesday, when she claimed to be “probably the president’s number 1 fan” and stated that her support for him would not waver. She made these comments at an event in Washington dedicated to the launch of “Trump accounts” for American children, which she has promised to support privately.

Backlash and Criticism

Minaj’s support for Trump has been met with widespread criticism from her own community, with many feeling betrayed by her sudden shift in opinion. However, Minaj has stated that the hate and criticism she has received have not affected her and have, in fact, encouraged her to support the president even more.

As a sign of affection, Trump has joked that he would imitate the rapper and let his nails grow, a signature part of Minaj’s image. Minaj has been a part of the president’s MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement for a few months now and has been actively supporting his policies.

A Shift in Values

This is not the first time Minaj has appeared in scenes close to Trumpism. In November, she staged a surprise intervention at the UN, claiming that “Christians were targets of attacks” in Nigeria, an accusation that was reiterated by Trump but rejected by the country’s authorities and observers. Additionally, Minaj has made openly transphobic statements, which is a stark contrast to the messages she projected in her early career.

Minaj has also spoken out against current gender policies and has criticized the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, for his support of trans youth. Her comments have sparked outrage from the LGBTQ+ community, which had previously seen her as an ally. Minaj has suggested that there is a campaign to discourage masculinity, stating that “there is nothing wrong with being a boy,” a comment that has been widely criticized for its simplicity and disregard for the complexity of the issue.

The contrast between Minaj’s current views and her previous stance is striking. In 2018, she actively criticized Trump’s anti-immigration policy, and in 2020, she was part of the jury for a drag queen contest, presenting herself as an ally of the LGBTQ+ community. When asked about her change in opinion, Minaj stated that “it’s okay to change your mind.”
