Alaró Welcomes International University Art Biennial Exhibition
Alaró becomes a global arts destination this month as it hosts the latest edition of the University Art Biennial – Art Week 2025. This traveling exhibition opens Saturday at Casal Son Tugores, showcasing contemporary works from seven countries while fostering connections between academic research and artistic practice.
An International Creative Convergence
The carefully curated exhibition features twelve innovative works from university art programs and Fine Arts centers across Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, and Mallorca. This diverse selection represents the Biennial’s commitment to creating dialogue between 21 participating universities worldwide.

Multimedia Exploration of Modern Themes
Visitors will experience a rich variety of artistic expressions including painting, sculpture, photography, video installations, and audiovisual projections. The works collectively examine pressing contemporary themes such as cultural identity, territorial relationships, and societal transformation.
“Hosting this international exhibition aligns perfectly with our mission to make Casal Son Tugores a vibrant cultural hub,” explained Cati Cifre, Alaró’s Councilor for Culture, during Saturday’s opening. “It demonstrates how smaller municipalities can successfully present world-class cultural programming.”
Beyond the Gallery Walls
Organizers from Adema (Art Design and Media Association) emphasize the Biennial’s broader significance. “This isn’t just an exhibition – it’s a dynamic exchange platform connecting universities, emerging artists, and diverse audiences,” noted an Adema representative. “Each iteration strengthens international academic partnerships while giving students real-world exhibition experience.”
The Alaró showcase represents a strategic choice by organizers, highlighting Mallorca’s growing reputation as a Mediterranean crossroads for artistic and educational exchange. Since its founding in 2019, the University Art Biennial has facilitated collaborations between over 3,000 students and faculty across its global network.
Planning Your Visit
Art enthusiasts can view this free exhibition at Casal Son Tugores through February 21. The venue’s historic architecture provides a striking contrast to the contemporary works, creating what organizers describe as “a dialogue between heritage and innovation.”
For those interested in the educational dimensions of the project, Adema maintains public documentation of the Biennial’s academic partnerships and pedagogical outcomes on their official website.
