Flu Vaccination Starts in Ibiza and Formentera: How to Book

How to Book Your Shot

The flu vaccine campaign started on Monday, 19 October at health centres across Ibiza and Formentera. This year anyone can make an appointment – you don’t have to be in a high‑risk group to get the jab. You can book in three easy ways:

  • Use the Espai Salut app on your phone.
  • Call 971 220 000 and speak to a receptionist.
  • Walk into your local health centre and ask for a slot.

If you’re already visiting the centre for another reason, staff can give you the flu vaccine without a separate visit.

Who Gets Priority?

Although the vaccine is open to all, health officials still focus on people who are more likely to catch or spread the flu. These groups include:

  • Pregnant women and new mums who weren’t vaccinated while pregnant.
  • Kids aged 6 months to 11 years (including those in early‑childhood education who missed the school shot).
  • Anyone aged 11‑59 with long‑term health issues such as diabetes, morbid obesity, heart, lung, nerve or kidney disease.
  • People with blood disorders, spleen problems, liver disease, neuromuscular conditions, weakened immune systems, cancer or chronic inflammatory diseases.
  • Those with conditions that affect thinking, coeliac disease, CSF leaks or cochlear implants.
  • Smokers.
  • Children under 11 who take aspirin long‑term for heart or stroke prevention.

Key Workers Who Should Get Vaccinated

People whose jobs put them in contact with vulnerable groups are also urged to get the flu shot:

  • Healthcare and social‑care staff.
  • Teachers and other education professionals.
  • Firefighters, police, Civil Protection workers and volunteers.
  • Anyone who works directly with birds or pigs – vets, farm workers, environmental officers.

Last Year’s Numbers

During the 2025‑2026 flu season, 219,096 people across the Balearic Islands received the vaccine – that’s 31,302 more than the year before. The breakdown by island was:

  • Mallorca: 180,451 vaccinations.
  • Ibiza and Formentera: 21,995 vaccinations.
  • Menorca: 16,650 vaccinations.

To build on this success, the health department has bought 289,090 flu vaccine doses for the new season, plus an extra 15,500 doses protecting against RSV (a common winter virus).

Why This Matters for the Future

The flu push is part of the Balearic Islands’ 2026‑2030 Strategic Health Plan, which puts prevention front and centre. The plan aims to:

  • Raise vaccination rates across all ages.
  • Close gaps so everyone has equal access to vaccines.
  • Add new immunisations when scientific evidence shows they help.

By making the flu shot easy to get for everyone, the islands hope to keep more people healthy, reduce school and work absences, and protect those who are most at risk.

Conclusion

This year’s flu campaign is simpler and more inclusive than ever. Whether you’re a student, a parent, a teacher, or anyone else looking to stay healthy, you can book a vaccine quickly through the app, phone, or in person. Getting vaccinated not only protects you but also helps shield friends, family, and the wider community from the flu. Make your appointment today and do your part for a healthier Ibiza and Formentera.
